Silent Killer in the Great Lakes

Since the 1960s, algal blooms in the Great Lakes have been growing and intensifying. Now, they threaten the stability of the Great Lakes ecosystems and the animals that live there.

The Great Lakes

Spanning more than 750 miles, the Great Lakes support a number of people and ecosystems, with over 30 million people living in the Great Lakes basin region.

The Great Lakes are one of the world’s largest surface freshwater ecosystems, containing 84% of North America's surface fresh water and about 21% of the world's supply of surface fresh water.
